So I decided that based on everything we needed to get done medically, it would be best to just get it over with in one month. After all, if I planned for it, it wouldn't be that bad.
Well, first the kids got sick. But we muddled through that. I got some much needed arthritis shots in both knees over 3 weeks. A painful choice, but hopefully worth it over the next year.
Andrew's tonsils came out, and I had 7 cavities filled. All no fun, but better then expected. So as the month was coming to a close, of course we had to have an unplanned emergency. I was shopping on Saturday night and when I opened the door to a store, it ran over my foot. It actually slashed a huge rip in my shoe. I limped through the store, but by the time I had gotten my item the pain had become unbearable. It turns out I shattered the tip of my toe. I am going to the doctor to get a further diagnosis.
My poor toe is a deep purple and it hurts miserably. They actually had to give me a shot of morphine in the hospital just so they could do an examine of it. So i am hobbling around on crutches and my mom flew in the next morning to help with the kids. I am completely incapacitated, and the pain meds are pretty intense. Poor Flay had had to do a lot of the stuff I normally do, like getting up with the kids at night, because I just move too slowly.
I'll update when I know more. For right now I am mostly camped out on my couch not able to do anything. It is very humbling to be completely dependant on others for everything for myself and my kids. My mom has been a total lifesaver, or I don't know what I would do.

I feed myself
Ashley's two favorite foods are oatmeal, and ramen. She has decided that she now feeds herself, an interesting exercise. I'll catch her drinking applesauce or dunking french fries in it. But nothing compares to when she eats oatmeal and/or noodles. The oatmeal ends up all over her, and the noodles end up all over my floor. The worst part is she is usually still hungry because she misses her mouth so much.
After having Andrew, the neatest and cleanest eater ever, she is quite the change. I have to wash her head to toe, including her hair. I almost always end up having to change her clothes too.

Middle of the Night Runner
Andrew has been getting up a lot at night lately, due to bad dreams, needing to go potty, and who knows what else. He comes in my room and over to my bed and wakes me up. He says, "Mom, Thomas bed." As soon as he sees that I am up he starts walking towards the door, once he is past the bed he starts speed walking. As soon as he gets in the hall he takes off running at full speed down the straight-a-way to his room. I can't help but laugh as I see his little body break out into a full run as I am stumbling to get out of bed.
Last night, by the time I got into his room, he was dead asleep. I don't know quite why he runs, or how he goes back to sleep so fast, but it is the strangest thing I have seen him do.

Andrew's surgery

On Friday, January 18th Andrew had his tonsils and adnoids out. I woke him up and put him straight into the car, still in his sleeper. He saw his Thomas bag which I had packed in case things didn't go well and we had to spend the night. He saw the bag and said, "Plane up in the sky, bus, train?" All things we ride when we go to the airport. I told him we had to go to the doctor's first and he said ok.
They had him change into this little purple gown with aliens on it. That lasted 5 minutes before he was asking to take the "dress" off. How could I argue with that. The nurses and doctors thought it was great. Soon he was naked.
They gave him something to help him relax, and I was able to go into the operating room with him and stay until he was under. They kept catty, stripey and cheese (the rat) so he would have them when he woke up. It only took about 30 minutes and he was done. I was there when he woke up and it was ugly. He screamed and cried and tried to rip out his IV. He got his blood oxygen sensor off in like 30 seconds. The nurse decided he was in pain and gave him some medicine which helped him relax and he went to sleep on me. I guess this is a normal reaction for small children to anesthesia, and I had been prepared for it.
They took us to the outpatient area, and when he woke up he was perfectly fine. He watched TV and drank probably 16 oz of juice. After an hour we were cleared to leave. He wanted to ride in the wheelchair to the entrance, but then RAN to the car saying, "fast, fast" the whole time. On the way home he asked for tacos, and ate 2 of them. I was in shock. He has just bounced right back, and other then a couple of grumpy days from coughing, this has been painless.

The House of Sick
We have spent the last 8 days sick. First Andrew got sick, with a fever of 104 and some horrible virus that gave him blisters on his tonsils. Of course Ashley got it as he was getting better. After shots and steriods at the Doctors, she is finally doing better, just in time for Andrew's surgery! He get's his tonsils out tommorrow, Friday morning. Wish us better luck with that, then we've had the past week. I can't wait to see him in those little hospital gowns:)

A tale of two bunnies
Ashley has a bunny that she loves. She bites it, hugs it, sleeps with it, hits things with it and even gives it sips from her bottle.
Well, little bunbun is looking a bit ragged. I finally found a new one, not realizing just how trashed bunbun was. When I first showed her the new bunny, she got all excited and grabbed it and hugged it. But when it was time for bed she wanted the old bunbun. She was not to be fooled. We are looking to break in the new bunny so that she will take it to sleep with. If anything were to happen to bunbun we would be in big trouble.

My little fashionista
Ashley has found her new love....shoes. She will constantly give us her shoes to put on her. Her favorites are a pair of fuzzy baby uggs, with hot pink bows. She will even take other people's shoes and put them on her hands and walk around. What a funny baby I have.

Stealing Soda

My children are obsessed with soda. I thought Andrew was bad, always stealing sips of soda. If you put a can of soda down he makes a beeline for it and guzzles as much as he can before you stop him. But, Andrew pales in comparison to Ashley.
I first gave her a sip of soda, thinking she wouldn't like the carbonation. But I was wrong. She drinks down soda like a fish. As soon as she sees a cup with a straw, she knows what is in there. She goes nuts for any soda she can get her hands on.

Jesus wants me for a Sunbeam
Sunday was Andrew's first day of primary (Sunday school for kids). I went and sat next to him for about 15 minutes during sharing time (where all the kids are together). I told him I was going to get his dad and he said "OK". I left and never went back. They said he was great the whole time. I couldn't believe it. When I picked him up he said he had fun and was so excited to show me the picture he had made.
For those of you who know, he is super shy and has struggled with separation anxiety. I was so proud that he had gone into primary and was well behaved. Now let's just see how next week goes:)
